Finding Peace This Christmas

Christmas 2016 | Luke 2:14

November 27th - December 3rd, 2016

Warm Up: The Holidays should be a time of great joy and celebration but so often they produce great deals of stress and anxiety, which seeks to steal our peace!

Begin by discussing what tends to steal or threaten your peace in this season (e.g. family dynamics, shopping, busy calendars, etc) Begin as a group in prayer. Seek the Lord together asking Him alone to be the Peace of this season.

  • Read Luke 2:8-14 aloud. What a gift! Do these verses help you put into perspective where we are to find our joy and peace in this season? Why?
  • In order to experience the Peace of God this Christmas season we must find ways to truly connect with our God of Peace.
  • What are some ways that you have experienced this peace in seasons past?
  • What are some new ways you plan on prioritizing closeness with Christ this season?
  • This season is all about Jesus, the One who brings the gift of ultimate peace to our lives. Pastor George gave us 3 clues from the Bible about finding our peace in Christ this Christmas. Read the following 3 verses aloud: John 14:27, John 16:33, and Isaiah 9:6-7a. What do these verses teach you?
  • Before we all get too caught up in the busyness of the season, take some time to consider the following 2 questions:
  1. What would it look like to SOAK on, rather than inhale, this Christmas season?
  2. What is ONE expectation we can surrender and relinquish in order to simplify our schedule?

Wrap up:  Soak on these words from Max Lucado: “The Omnipotent, in one instant, made himself breakable. He who had been spirit became pierceable. He who was larger than the universe became an embryo. And he who sustains the world with a word chose to be dependent upon the nourishment of a young girl. God as a fetus.  Holiness sleeping in a womb. The creator of life being created.” Close your time in prayer, asking God how we might seek His peace and share His Peace with those around us this season.
