Community Food Co-Op – Food Programs

This is for ANYONE wanting to stretch their discretionary dollars and save money on groceries…if you eat, you qualify! Golden Share Food Programs is offering fresh, high quality, non-processed food (veggies, eggs, cheese, meat, fruit, etc.) in manageable quantities for about ½ the price of grocery store food! Recipes are included. Here’s how it works: Order and pay for your food boxes online at www.goldensharefoods.com and designate “Orange County – Family Assistance Ministries” as your pick-up location, then head to FAM on the 3rd Saturday of the month to get your food (1030 Calle Negocio). This is a great opportunity to save money in a tough economy. The more people in the co-op, the better! The more people who participate, the more buying power FAM will have. Spread the word! Questions? Contact Golden Share Foods at (619) 590-1692 or FAM at (949) 492-8477.

A Treasure Box of Nutrition

With Californians currently enduring some of the toughest economic conditions since the great depression, ’need’ can be seen in almost every household throughout the state. Many Orange County residents are challenged now to find ways to cut costs wherever they can and to stretch the family budget and finances. One area that frequently dominates the family budget is the grocery bill. However, necessity is the mother of invention. In a flash of inspiration mixed with compassion and understanding, www.thetreasurebox.org (Treasure Box) was created.

The Treasure Box is an organization that was created to help individuals and families stretch their budgets by providing a solution to the high cost groceries. They provide grocery store brands in bulk at a fraction of the cost of local grocery stores. There is no qualifying; Treasure Boxes are available for anyone to purchase.

For the cost of $32, the Treasure Box provides a substantial box of food that would typically retail for $65 – $100, which includes high quality frozen foods, such as chicken, pork, beef or seafood, as well as vegetables, fruit, a side dish and a dessert. One Treasure Box is enough food to feed a family of four lunch and dinner for almost a week or a single person for nearly a month.

Treasure Boxes are available once a month by pre–ordering online and picking up the box at one of over 40 designated locations (usually the last Saturday of the month.) Many of the locations are sites of community action or outreach programs and faith–based organizations that have partnered with the Treasure Box. The nearest pick-up site is Heritage Christian Fellowship (190 Avenida La Pata, San Clemente).

We would like to thank the Treasure Box, and their participating host locations, for helping to ease the economic burden families throughout the county are experiencing. For more information on the Treasure Box please visit their website at www.thetreasurebox.org or call Terri Van at 866–712–0925 x106.
